Porgy and Bess" tells the story of a disabled beggar named Porgy, living in the impoverished African American community of Catfish Row in Charleston, South Carolina, who falls in love with Bess, a troubled woman trapped in a relationship with the violent and possessive Crown; when Crown commits a crime, Bess seeks refuge with Porgy, but their newfound happiness is threatened by Crown's return and the manipulative drug dealer Sportin' Life, ultimately leading to Bess's tragic departure from Porgy's life as she is lured away to New York City by Sportin' Life.
